Adolf Hitler was nominated in 1939. Other nominees included Joseph Stalin and Benito Mussolini. Yasser Arafat, Jimmy Carter, and Wangari Maathai - a Kenyan ecoterrorist - became winners.
Ladies and Gentlemen, it's here.
were nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. How do the Norwegian lawmakers justify such an incredible absurdity?
- “A prerequisite for winning the Nobel Peace Prize is making a difference, and Al Gore has made a difference,” Conservative Member of Parliament Boerge Brende, a former minister of environment and then of trade, told The Associated Press.
That's nice but how does this explanation emphasizing the "difference" agree with the nomination of Sheila Watt-Cloutier, an Inuit I've never heard about who has 5 times less Google hits than your humble correspondent? What difference has she made? Is riding a dog sled enough?
Moreover, before the explanation above could be used to justify the nominations listed in this article except for Ms Watt-Cloutier who was treated separately, the Nobel Peace Prize would first have to be renamed to
- the Nobel Prize for Influential Mass Killers, Annihilators of Economies, Terrorists, Econuts, and Imbeciles.
Sounds pretty good. ;-)Lindzen on CNN
