In their efforts to defend an indefensible proposal for a communist healthcare system, the Left has introduced two basic and historically not-quite-new tools:
- HCAN (Health Care for America Now), the new Sturmabteilung
- Flag@whitehouse.gov, an internet-based system to organize informers and create a list of enemies of the currently governing party in the U.S.
Organized screaming is just one thing that HCAN is supposed to plan.
New "marshals" should be found or hired who will steal banners, attack the conservative opposition, and prevent anyone who disagrees with the proposed communist system of the healthcare from speaking to the media. It seems that several left-wing organizations - including MoveOn.ORG and some labor unions - are behind the new paramilitary organization and it may even be supported by some very official chairs.
A black conservative became the first victim: he was seriously injured by aggressive members of SEIU, a fat blue-shirted labor union: video.
The second link leads to a blog post written by the boss of the White House website. Among other things, he wrote:
There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care. These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation. Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to email@example.com.Wow. During the communist era, we used to have a very similar system. It was called StB (or KGB), the communist secret agency. It was collecting the information about inconvenient people and their "fishy" work, too. About 1% of the population (150,000 people in Czechoslovakia) were informers.
See a protest by U.S. Senator Cornyn.
Let me say that it is plausible that the Left may find more than 50% of people who are ready to steal anything from the rest and strip others of their basic rights. But that would no longer be called democracy because democracy is something else than tyranny run by a (slight) majority.
In more pragmatic terms, even if they manage to collect more than 50% of some votes, that doesn't mean that the opposition disappears or can be "made disappeared". And if some planned changes of the society would be just too unacceptable for the "rest" which might include tens of millions of people if not more, the government-organized system would simply become unable to protect both the old constitutional order as well as the new communist laws.
At least one of these two categories would have to be sacrificed. If the constitutional order such as the basic privacy rights and the freedom of speech were sacrificed instead of the indefensible new communist laws, America would become a totalitarian country.
But be sure that such a transition couldn't really occur peacefully. Russia was a pretty communist nation but the Bolsheviks had to fight in a civil war that took four years and killed millions of people. And the Nazis needed quite a lot of nontrivial violence, too. At the very end, both of these systems had lost. Their basic ideological pillars - either socialism or national socialism - are simply not sustainable.
Obama's approval rate is currently at 55%, below those 56% of George Bush in Summer 2001, an analogous time.
