### Yau, Nadis: The Shape of Inner Space

I just received a copy of Steve Nadis' and Shing-Tung Yau's new and excellent book,

The Shape of Inner Space: String theory and the geometry of the Universe's hidden dimensions.
Pre-order it via amazon.com (see the button on the left) to lock the 30% discount; you will receive it in one month. Steve Nadis who writes for Astronomy magazine gives the book his experienced writing style while Shing-Tung Yau, one of the greatest living mathematicians, shares the story of his mathematical discoveries that would eventually become a cornerstone of state-of-the-art theoretical physics.

As you may know, he used to believe that Calabi's conjecture had to be false. After some time, he proved that it was true. The physical applications of these hidden dimensions of space are described in quite some detail, much like some speculations for the future. Yau offers a mathematician's perspective on the topic which is a new feature of the popular HEP physics books.

The book has been praised by Greene, Polchinski, Donaldson, Witten, and Strogatz.

A quote of the day
"Wow, you came all the way from America to hear Stephen Hawking’s talk!"
During the Strings 2001 conference in Mumbai, India, a local shopkeeper talked to a consumer named Edward Witten. :-) Via Cosmonut at Asymptotia.COM.
